First of all I just want to congratulate you on your work on the
LOOPZ website, you've done a wonderful and comprehensive job. Keep
up the superior work!
I attended the Community Service Tour 1999 Concert when it appeared
in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, July 17th in the Bronco Entertainment
Center. To begin, I must tell you that this is my first concert
to see Orbital live and in person. They were absolutely amazing!
They were the last group to play out of the stellar lineup of Lo-Fidelity
All-Stars, Crystal Method, and John Kelley. I would have to say
that Orbital stole the show. Not only was their music creative and
refreshing, but their visual methods were second to none. Orbital
played continuously for about an hour and a half, which included
an encore performance of Satan and Chime.
To give a run down of the songs played: Orbital played almost every
song off their "The Middle of Nowhere" cd. They started off with
Way Out and moved on to tracks 2 and 3, and then broke the pattern
by pulling from their second album (brown album) from Impact (the
earth is burning). From there they returned to MON and then went
into two tracks from In Sides, then back to MON for a new rendition
of Style. They stopped after Style and the crowd chanted "One more
set" and "Orbital" and they returned for an encore performance of
Satan and Chime. The only album that they noticeably missed was
Snivelization.
Their visuals were stunning. Most of them had to do with either
Time (clock hands moving or digital counters), Consumer ploys (Buy
Now, Pay later, Bargain Bonanza, etc) or everyday symbols (home,
work, family, women, play, etc). Overall it fit the music very well
and only enhanced their performance.
I hope this "rookie" review has helped. I'm sorry I was unable to
get any recordings or pictures. Let me just say that Orbital has
garnared even more respect from me after their stellar performance.
